The easiest way to spot if a candidate is going to turn out to be a disaster?
Listen to how they talk about their previous employer.
Do they blame and disparage their previous manager?
Were they fired or did they quit under nasty circumstances?
You’ll see that candidates are remarkably consistent in what they say about their last couple of jobs– including what they say about you when you have to fire them or they quit.
Just like previous boyfriends and girlfriends, spot the pattern.
If you’re looking for your next job, avoid bad-mouthing your previous employer, even if you are 100% right.
You want to show you’re coachable and reasonable, which will then attract the same type of employer.
Hiring based on what they say about their last employer is more important than verifying skills, would you agree?
