How Cajun Koi Academy cut fees 7% at $14K MRR on Whop

Summary. Cajun Koi Academy is a self-improvement education business launched in 2022 by Mike and Matty Kenny, brothers and former physicians, that consolidated courses, Discord communities and Notion templates onto Whop and reports more than $14,000 in monthly recurring revenue with a 7% saving on transaction fees. If you sell several small digital products across several tools, this is the consolidation case.

What Cajun Koi Academy was doing before Whop

The brothers left medicine to teach what changed their own lives. Their line: “Self-improvement changed our lives. We wanted to spread its teachings and message and help others find their own way.”

The catalog was the problem. Courses on one platform, Discord communities on another, Notion templates sold somewhere else. Each had its own fee, and at their margins the fees mattered. They also needed support handled by someone other than themselves.

What changed on Whop

Everything moved to one storefront. Courses are hosted on Whop, buyers are routed into Discord, templates are delivered on purchase, and checkout is the same for all of it.

Two features do the extra work. Affiliates let members and creators sell the academy for a cut, with payouts handled by the platform. Customer support is outsourced through Whop, which the write-up names as a requirement for a two-person business with tight margins.

The numbers

Whop reports more than $14,000 in MRR and a 7% saving on transaction fees. It does not say 7% of what: the write-up does not give the previous fee stack, so the dollar amount of the saving is not published. It does not report member count, product prices or affiliate volume. The article is dated May 2023 and modified January 2026.

What I would tell a course creator to copy

Count your platforms and their fees. If you sell a course, a community and a template through three tools, you are paying three subscriptions, three transaction fees and three support inboxes. Put your last 90 days of sales through one fee schedule and see what 7% means in dollars for you.

Use the proof you already have. Two physicians who left medicine to teach is a story a stranger remembers; publish it on one canonical page with named students and what changed for them. Do not spread it across a dozen thin posts.

Measure before you turn on affiliates. Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console with the checkout firing as a conversion event, so an affiliate sale and an organic sale are counted separately. Affiliates on Whop pay out automatically; attribution is your job.

Then put a dollar a day behind the student result that already got comments. A template screenshot with a real outcome beats a course trailer.

Who this is not for

Whop is a checkout, course, community, affiliate and storefront layer. It does not write the course, run the Discord conversations or replace Notion. The base rate is 2.7% + 30¢, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢, and the optional layers, managed tax at 2%, orchestration at 0.8% and billing at 0.5%, can push the stack above Stripe. Financing requires $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in 90 days and a dispute rate under 2%, and it is unavailable to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers and adult categories. At $14,000 a month the base rate is the whole cost unless you switch on billing or managed tax; check those before you count the saving.

If you were going to use Whop anyway

If you were going to sign up for Whop anyway, sign up through my link, dennisyu.com/go/whop, or send me your business name and email and I will submit the referral. Whop pays me a share of its profit on your account; your rate is the same 2.7% + 30¢ either way. In return my team at Local Service Spotlight sets up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and keep it maintained: a personal brand analysis, Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console with conversion events that actually fire, a Content Factory that turns one recording into a definitive article, clips and posts, and a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report. That is the work we normally charge coaching and consulting businesses for.
