Summary. PreMedley is an MCAT prep community run by siblings Evan Botterman (CEO) and Lauryn Botterman (COO). Since 2023 it has supported 7,000+ premed students on a Whop membership that starts at $27 a month, against incumbents charging $5,000 or more. If you run a coaching or course business against expensive incumbents, the price-and-volume math is the part to study.
What PreMedley was doing before Whop
The market was the before. MCAT prep was dominated by Kaplan, Blueprint and private tutors charging $5,000 and up, with weak support and real barriers for low-income and first-generation students.
Evan describes what he hears: “We regularly have students tell us that they previously signed up for very expensive MCAT prep courses that didn’t deliver”. Whop’s write-up does not describe what tools PreMedley used before Whop or where the company is based, so I will not guess.
What changed on Whop
PreMedley sells tiered memberships on Whop, with Basic at $27 a month. Inside the membership are a community chat, course-style resource delivery, and coordination of about 20 hours a week of live tutoring.
The mechanism is volume at a low price with support inside the product. A $5,000 course has to sell one student at a time. A $27 membership has to keep thousands of students, which means the chat and the tutoring hours are the product, not extras.
Growth, by Evan’s account, is referral: “We’ve helped 7,000-plus students, and they’re telling their friends, and their friends are telling their friends.” The write-up does not say PreMedley uses Whop’s affiliate feature, so I will not claim it does.
The numbers
From Whop’s write-up: 7,000+ students supported since 2023; members reporting 15 to 20 point MCAT increases against a typical 2 to 3; one student, Ciara, up 28 points from 491 to 519; another, Alicia, up 12 points with 15 acceptances and 4 full-tuition scholarships. Basic is listed at $27 a month in the write-up, while a separate Whop page lists PreMedley Basic at $597 a year, so check the storefront for the current price. The write-up does not publish revenue or member counts by tier. Financing is not mentioned.
What I would tell a coaching or consulting owner to copy
Measure first. Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console on the sales page, with the membership checkout firing as a conversion. At $27 a month you need volume, and volume without attribution is guessing.
Get proof with names and scores. Ciara, 491 to 519, is proof. Alicia, 15 acceptances, is proof. A score gain a stranger can check beats any promise about support. Collect these with permission and publish them.
Build one definitive page per topic. One page on each MCAT section, with the method and the named gains, that every clip and post links back to. Do not scatter it across 40 thin posts.
Make the referral loop measurable. Friends telling friends is real, but you cannot improve what you cannot count. Whop has built-in affiliates; if you turn them on, every referral has a name and a number.
Then put a dollar a day behind a student’s result video that already got comments. Boost proof, not the price.
Who this is not for
Whop is a checkout, financing, affiliate and storefront layer with community and course delivery attached. It is not a learning management system with grading, a tutoring scheduler or an accounting app; PreMedley coordinates about 20 hours a week of live tutoring, and the write-up does not say Whop schedules it. The base rate is 2.7% + 30¢, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢, and the optional layers (managed tax at 2%, orchestration at 0.8%, billing at 0.5%) can push the stack above Stripe. You feel that at $27 a month. Financing requires $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in 90 days and a dispute rate under 2%. Financing is unavailable to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers and adult categories.
If you were going to use Whop anyway
If you were going to sign up for Whop anyway, sign up through my link, dennisyu.com/go/whop, or send me your business name and email and I will submit the referral. Whop pays me a share of its profit on your account; your rate is the same 2.7% + 30¢ either way. In return my team at Local Service Spotlight sets up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and keep it maintained: a personal brand analysis, Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console with conversion events that actually fire, a Content Factory that turns one recording into a definitive article, clips and posts, and a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report. That is the work we normally charge coaching and consulting businesses for.
