How SideShift pays 850,000 creators with Whop embedded payouts

Summary. SideShift is a user-generated-content platform with more than 850,000 creators and more than 1,000 brands that pays out millions of dollars a week. Co-founder and CTO Drew Levin replaced a payout provider whose KYC and withdrawals created friction with Whop‘s embedded payouts, delivered through a React SDK. If you run a clipping agency, a UGC marketplace or any business that pays many small creators, this is the plumbing story.

What SideShift was doing before Whop

SideShift already had a payout provider. Levin’s assessment: “For pay-ins it was fine, but for payouts there was a lot of friction on both KYC and the withdrawal process.” Creators had one way to get paid, a bank withdrawal, and identity verification slowed the first payment.

For a platform whose product is “brands pay, creators earn,” a slow first payout is a churn event.

What changed on Whop

SideShift migrated payouts to Whop and embedded them in its own interface. Creators verify identity through Whop, see a balance, choose bank, crypto, Venmo or Cash App, and withdraw, all inside SideShift.

The React SDK is the reason it looks native: balance, withdrawal and history are drop-in components rather than a redirect. Levin on the difference: “Now our creators can start earning with a lot less friction, which makes the platform a lot easier to use and the experience a lot better.”

The numbers

Whop reports more than 850,000 creators, more than 1,000 brands, millions of dollars paid out per week, more than 50 campaign structures and payouts to 241 or more territories. It does not report SideShift revenue, payout failure rates before and after, or time-to-first-payout. The market figures, a $12.63 billion UGC market growing 28% a year and 54% of gig workers wanting same-day funds while 36% of platforms offer instant payouts, are article-cited industry numbers.

What I would tell a clipping agency or UGC platform to copy

Measure time to first payout. It is the number your creators feel. If it is days, you are recruiting for your competitor. Instrument it the way you would a checkout: Google Analytics 4 and Tag Manager on the creator app, with “first payout completed” as a conversion event.

Offer the payout method your creators already use. A 19-year-old clipper wants Cash App or Venmo, not a wire form. SideShift went from one method to four; count how many yours has.

Do not build KYC yourself. Identity verification across 241 territories is a compliance department. Rent it.

Get proof from named creators. “Millions a week” is the platform’s claim; a named creator with a first-month figure is proof a stranger can check. One canonical page for creators, one for brands, each with real names and numbers, then a dollar a day behind the creator story that already got engagement.

Who this is not for

Whop here is a payout and verification layer embedded by SDK, not a campaign manager or a content marketplace; SideShift still owns the brands, the briefs and the creators. The base rate is 2.7% + 30¢, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢, and the optional layers, managed tax at 2%, orchestration at 0.8% and billing at 0.5%, can push the stack above Stripe. Financing requires $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in 90 days and a dispute rate under 2%, and it is unavailable to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers and adult categories. Payout pricing is separate from checkout pricing, so ask for the payout schedule before comparing it with a merchant account.

If you were going to use Whop anyway

If you were going to sign up for Whop anyway, sign up through my link, dennisyu.com/go/whop, or send me your business name and email and I will submit the referral. Whop pays me a share of its profit on your account; your rate is the same 2.7% + 30¢ either way. In return my team at Local Service Spotlight sets up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and keep it maintained: a personal brand analysis, Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console with conversion events that actually fire, a Content Factory that turns one recording into a definitive article, clips and posts, and a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report. That is the work we normally charge creator and clipping businesses for.
