Summary. Mailmodo, an email marketing tool founded in 2020, listed in Whop‘s marketplace and Business App Store and picked up 500-plus signups and $75,000 in added annual recurring revenue in nine months. Whop also supplied onboarding specialists, automated feedback collection, and its in-house email agency as a customer. If you sell software and your buyers already shop on a marketplace, this is a distribution case, with a 2023 date on it.

What Mailmodo was doing before Whop

Mailmodo was acquiring customers against established email tools, which is expensive when the buyer already has one. It also needed onboarding support and insight into why customers churned.

Whop’s write-up does not name a person at Mailmodo, state where it is based, or give its revenue before the listing.

What changed on Whop

Mailmodo listed in Whop’s marketplace, where Whop’s business customers shop for tools. The write-up puts marketplace traffic at 3 million monthly visitors.

Three more pieces came with the listing. Whop’s onboarding specialists helped new users get set up. Automated feedback collection gave Mailmodo the churn insight it lacked. And Whop Services, Whop’s in-house email agency, used the product, which gave Mailmodo a customer inside the partner.

The write-up’s own summary of the mechanism: “Strategic partnerships can solve multiple growth challenges including customer acquisition, onboarding support, and retention tracking.”

The numbers

500-plus signups from the Whop marketplace in 9 months. $75,000 in annual recurring revenue added. 3 million monthly visitors to the Whop marketplace, per Whop.

That works out to about $150 of ARR per signup, my arithmetic, not Whop’s. The write-up does not state conversion from signup to paid, churn after the listing, or what Mailmodo paid for placement, if anything. It is dated October 31, 2023, so confirm the listing path still exists before you plan around it.

What I would tell a software founder to copy

List where your buyers already pay for things. A marketplace with 3 million monthly visitors who already have a card on file is cheaper to convert than cold traffic. That is the whole case, and $150 of ARR per signup is the number to beat.

Tag the source. A marketplace listing without a UTM is a signup you cannot attribute. Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console, with the marketplace as its own source and a conversion event on the paid plan, before the listing goes live.

Instrument churn. Mailmodo wanted churn insight and got it from automated feedback collection. Whatever tool you use, the question is the same: why did the last 20 cancellations cancel, in their words.

Get named proof. The write-up names no customers. One canonical page per use case, with real customers and their numbers, is what turns 500 signups into the next 500. Then Dollar-a-Day behind the demo that already converts.

Who this is not for

Whop is a checkout, financing, affiliate and storefront layer, not an accounting or field-service app, and a marketplace listing is a channel, not a business. If your buyers are enterprises with procurement, a marketplace listing is unlikely to reach them. The base rate is 2.7% + 30¢, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢; the optional layers, managed tax at 2%, orchestration at 0.8% and billing at 0.5%, can push the stack above Stripe. Financing requires $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in 90 days and a dispute rate under 2%, and is unavailable to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers and adult categories; this story does not involve financing.
