Whop for Software and SaaS: Embedded Checkout, Payouts and Licenses
Summary. Software companies use Whop three ways: embedded checkout so users pay without leaving the product, payouts so the platform can pay its coaches, creators or experts, and license keys that die when the subscription does. Replit, Cal.com, Metafy, SideShift, Poke, micro1, Fitted, Mailmodo, Woobie and StellarAIO are retold below, with what a founder should copy from each.
What you pay to get paid: today versus Whop, on your own numbers
Base rates only: Stripe 2.9% + 30¢, Whop 2.7% + 30¢. Whop’s optional layers (managed tax 2%, orchestration 0.8%, billing 0.5%) are not included and can push the stack above Stripe. Instant payouts, disputes and international cards are extra on both.
Why I am writing about Whop for software
Most SaaS founders think of Whop as a creator platform and skip it. The stories say otherwise: Replit embedded Whop checkout for 50 million users, Cal.com replaced a four-step OAuth and external checkout handoff with an embedded component, and Metafy and micro1 run every payout through it. The common thread is renting the money rails so the team ships product.
The other pattern is distribution. Mailmodo took 500-plus signups from the Whop marketplace in nine months, which is a channel most software companies have never listed in.

What Whop does for a software founder
For a software company Whop is embedded checkout components and an API, subscriptions and billing, license key management tied to the paying account, payouts with identity verification and tax handling to bank, Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or stablecoins, virtual cards with spend controls, a marketplace listing, and webhooks and a Zapier app for everything downstream. It is not a subscription analytics suite or a customer data platform.
What it costs
Whop’s base rate is 2.7% + 30¢ per card transaction with no monthly fee, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢. Optional layers cost extra: managed sales tax 2%, payment orchestration 0.8%, billing automation 0.5%, affiliate payout processing 1.25%. International cards add 1.5% and currency conversion 1%. Disputes are $15. Instant payouts are 4% + $1; next-day ACH is $2.50.
Financing is not on by default. Whop requires a verified Whop Payments account, a complete store page, a dispute rate under 2% over 90 days, and $30,000 processed from ten or more customers in the last 90 days, or 90 days of statements from your previous processor. It is not available to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers or adult categories.
What I set up for software businesses that sign up through me
If you were going to sign up for Whop anyway, sign up through my link, dennisyu.com/go/whop, or send me your business name and email and I will submit the referral. Whop pays me a share of its profit on your account; your rate is the same 2.7% + 30¢ either way. In return my team at Local Service Spotlight sets up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and keep it maintained: a personal brand analysis, Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager and Search Console with conversion events that actually fire, a Content Factory that turns one recording into a definitive article, clips and posts, and a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report. For a software company that means the founder’s brand, the customer-story pages a buyer reads before a trial, and the event tracking that separates a signup from an activation. That is the work we normally charge software businesses for, and I am a Whop partner, so Whop pays me from its side of the account, not yours. The full program and my disclosure are on the Whop affiliate program page.
Who this is not for
If you already run Stripe Billing with a custom entitlement system and a finance team that likes it, the migration cost is real and the 20 basis points will not pay for it; look at Whop for payouts and the marketplace instead. If you need enterprise invoicing with net-60 terms and purchase orders, Whop is not that.
Questions software owners ask
Can users pay inside my app without a redirect? Yes. Whop’s embedded checkout components run inside your product; Replit and Cal.com both use them, and Cal.com’s engineering lead called the integration a breeze.
How do Whop payouts work for a platform? Your users verify identity through Whop, connect a payout method and withdraw; SideShift and Metafy run all payouts this way, and micro1 integrated in under a week. Payout pricing is separate from checkout pricing.
Does Whop manage software license keys? Yes. Keys are issued, checked and revoked with the subscription, which is how StellarAIO runs $2.6M in ARR on the platform.
