In 2011, Anthony Hilb started cutting grass out of the back of a minivan with a push mower and a pair of garden shears — trimming around mailboxes by hand because he didn't own a weed eater.
His sales that first year: $18,000.
These are Anthony's own numbers, confirmed by him directly:
- 2011: $18,000 in sales, a sole proprietorship with a minivan and a mower.
- 2016: Incorporated as an LLC.
- 2024: Over $4,000,000 in sales.
- Today: Approximately $5.2 million in combined annual sales across four businesses — Anthony's Lawn Care and Landscaping, Anthony's Tree Removal, Anthony's Junk Hauling, and Anthony's Home Services — with a combined team of approximately 70 people, serving 145 cities across Indiana, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
What grew it
Not a funding round. Not a franchise buy-in. Anthony grew by doing excellent work in public: filming real jobs, earning real reviews — including seven consecutive years (2019–2025) as the Herald-Times readers' choice for Best Landscaping, Lawn Care, and Tree Service Company in Bloomington — and teaching what he learned in two books, Make Money with a Microbusiness and Mow Money.
That's why I featured his business as the worked example at Hypergrowth Singapore: his growth and his proof are the same story. Every year of revenue added evidence; every piece of evidence made the next year easier to win.
Most owners ask how to market a business like this. Anthony's answer, in practice: build something worth proving, then prove it relentlessly.
